Bioconversion of Crop Residues Using Alternative Fermentation-Based Approaches

چکیده

Globally, the growing production of food commodities generates significant quantities agroindustrial residues, most which are untreated and disposed as waste through either burning, dumping into land, or unplanned landfilling, thereby causing environmental pollution, public health problems, decreased soil organic matter productivity. A literature review has been conducted on current crop residue biomass valorization, analyzing raw material properties potential risks associated with its incorrect absent management, well major microbial fermentation strategies that used for converting residual crops valuable products. Approximately 2445.2 million tons residues produced worldwide. Microbial is an efficient way managing rich in nutrients (e.g., nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) them single-cell proteins, antibiotics, enzymes, bioalcohols, polysaccharides, fine chemicals, others, supporting a circular bioeconomy. Although separate saccharification (SHF) represent predominant strategy, it requires considerable equipment costs long process time, can lead to formation contaminations inhibitors. Alternative conversion strategies, including simultaneous (SSF), co-fermentation (SSCF), consolidated bioprocessing (CBP), reduce time costs, contaminations, inhibitor formation, enhance yields. Nevertheless, combining hydrolysis single phase results non-optimal temperature pH. This discusses valorization provides 360-degree view topic. After investigating types their analyzes key steps bioconversion process, common microorganisms cultures. In addition, this reports various examples being converted industrial products main (SHF, SSF, SSCF, CBP), highlighting strengths weaknesses. As fact, need be compared benefits disadvantages before implemented large scale. availability materials, investment, operating skilled workforce availability, sustainability, return investment all evaluated. Finally, discussion focus future outlooks challenges.

Fungal Bioconversion of Lignocellulosic Residues; Opportunities & Perspectives

The development of alternative energy technology is critically important because of the rising prices of crude oil, security issues regarding the oil supply, and environmental issues such as global warming and air pollution. Bioconversion of biomass has significant advantages over other alternative energy strategies because biomass is the most abundant and also the most renewable biomaterial on...

Solide-State Fermentation Technology for Bioconversion of Lignocellulose

Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is envisioned as a prominent bio conversion technique to transform natural raw materials into a wide variety of chemical as well as biochemical products. SSF is being successfully exploited for food production, fuels, enzymes, antibiotics, animal feeds and also for dye degradation. The reuse of agro-industrial wastes in SSF processes is of particular interest due ...

Crop management factors influencing yield and quality of crop residues

In the semi-arid tropics, over two-third’s of the world’s people depend on agriculture within which livestock play a major role in building rural livelihoods. Crop residues (fodder/stover) are important feed resources for ruminants. This review was undertaken with the objective of improving understanding of the role of various crop management factors in affecting the productivity and quality of...

Bioconversion of secondary fiber fines to ethanol using counter-current enzymatic saccharification and co-fermentation.

This research examined several enzymatic and microbial process for the conversion of waste cellulosic fibers into ethanol. The first was a one-stage process in which pulp fines were contacted with commercial enzyme solutions. The second process used sequential, multistage saccharification. The third used sequential enzyme addition in a countercurrent mode. Experiments compared the results with ...

Liquefaction of Crop Residues for Polyol Production

The liquefaction of crop residues in the presence of ethylene glycol, ethylene carbonate, or polyethylene glycol using sulfuric acid as a catalyst was studied. For all experiments, the liquefaction was conducted at 160°C and atmospheric pressure. The mass ratio of feedstock to liquefaction solvents used in all the experiments was 30:100. The results show that the acid catalyzed liquefaction pro...
